Die Spieleschmiede published an article explaining why their crowdfunding system does not involve any risk for the supporters:
German based crowdfunding website “Spieleschmiede” (game forge) protects backers.
Board Games are always supervised by experienced editors and contracts ensure production of the rewards.
Currently there are some articles and fears about crowdfunding of boardgames and the legal protection of funders and their financial risks.
What happens, if a project is funded, but the person responsible is unable to produce the rewards? Do backers get their money back?
Unlike open platforms, the German based Spieleschmiede makes sure that backers get their rewards or get their money back.
“Spieleschmiede is the safe way of crowdfunding”, explains Frank Noack of Spieleschmiede. Noack and his team launched the platform about one year ago.
Since then they collected more than 170.000 Euro for boardgame projects. Nine out of ten projects succeeded.
The Difference
Spieleschmiede is not an open financing platform. Frank Noack: “We work directly with boardgame publishing companies and experienced game editors. Many backers worried about the possibility of losing their money without getting the promised rewards. Working directly with the boardgame publishers gives us the opportunity to make direct contracts with these companies to produce the rewards. We check the basic calculation before a campaign starts und we hand out the money to the publishers depending on the progress of the production. This increases security for all smithies.”
The Projects
Spieleschmiede (game forge) is a platform created by board game enthusiasts for board game enthusiasts. Together they finance projects related to board gaming and the board games, which the publishers think are too risky to produce with a normal print run. With the help of smithies these games can become reality.
