Torn World - Torn Armor Kickstarter

Torn World launched their Torn Armor Kickstarter:

Torn Armor is a fantasy skirmish miniature game based on the rich lore of "Torn." It features anthropomorphic creatures such as cat, mouse, monkey, and rhino-headed creatures in their desperate defense of their homeland against the Spartan-like "Sisk" invaders.

  1. Sweet lord, it's been raining Kickstarters these last couple of months....and here's another interesting looking one.

Not really sure what to think of the general Kickstarter development, though the current push to more complete products and sets is admirable. Not to mention healthier for the longevity of a game system and world. I do find it interesting though that we're also seeing a revival of the skirmish board game genre, reminds me of bygone days ;-)

For this particular one it's nice to see actual gameplay upfront, as well as full information on the people involved in its production. Definitely watching this Kickstarter with interest....along with half a dozen others!

  2. I know what you mean. I have been bailing out of a Kickstarter for the first time to free up fundings for this one and the upcoming RoboTech, Mecha Front and Raging Heroes campaigns. I wonder if we will see a long term diversification of the hobby or if people will just get weary of cool KS-projects that will never get played after purchase.

    1. It is definitely an interesting time, really curious to see where some of these games will be in 2-5 years from now.

Pretty sure I'll be backing out of Zombicide Season II in order to support Torn Armor as well. The CMoN kickstarters have me slightly annoyed due to the way they saturate the market and provide products of mixed quality. It's a tough balance between getting a good deal and supporting the companies developing the games, and the more negative elements of the promo money sinks, mixed component quality of previous kickstarter releases of game components (good grief they need rulebook proofreaders really, really badly), production short-cuts and absolute lack of kickstarter need (particularly true for Zombicide which was a huge success last year).

Don't get me wrong, Zombicide turned out quite fun eventually, despite it not being finished yet while a second kickstarter is already in the field. Sedition Wars is a great product, but suffers from the exact same shortcomings as Zombicide when it comes to the rulebook and mixed component quality, where I feel Studio McVey got the short end of the stick (and the project isn't done yet either). In all honesty I am rather worried about the rules for Relic Knights, I hope Soda Pop really keeps on top of those.

Simply put I feel that my humble bit of cash is better spend supporting actual new and upcoming products. Naturally it helps that Torn is an interesting universe and this particular game really reminds me of good, old Battle Masters but with actual depth, less randomness and some very nice design work.
